Unhappy Brown Goo, Cleaning, Sand

Pump went out and was replaced by a larger pump, deeper in the well. Then I got reddish brown goo for months. Well guy said it is because the casing pours were clogged and the well need to be cleaned. He cleaned the well with compressed air, but in the process he appeared to go below the well lining and blew out alot of pea gravel. He worked for three days getting the gravel out and got down to the original well depth. Now says I need a new well. OMG. Am I Screwed...........oh ya he gave me a bill for over $7.000.00. What do I do. Water is full of sand and brown goo. What happen? Why did I have the brown goo in the first place? Did I need such a radical cleaning? How do I get out of this?

The changing of the pump, sometimes will cause that reddish brown stuff. Most wells and pipes have it in them. It's mostly minerales, and maybe some algae. When the water is disturbed, it knocked it off the pipes.

I don't think your well was stopped up with it. If it was stopped up, it would have stopped pumping water or caveatted the pump. Witch would have put a lot of air in the tank.

Now, the pee gravel is not a good sign.
Did you have the well drilled?
Is your well a screened well or is it in rock.
Did the rocks come out of the inside of the casing or the outside?
Was your well having any problems before the new pump?
Was the 7k with the new pump or was it just for the work he did cleaning the well?
How deep was the old pump, and how deep is the new pump now?

When you say.
He worked for three days getting the gravel out and got down to the original well depth.

Are you saying that the well was full of gravel?
Or has it filled up over time?
