a little help with a air master compressor tiger 8/50

i have for a fair few years had this unit but only just noted could have been like this all the time as only used once in a while the gauge (there are two)

please copy and paste to get pic of smaller item

all works ok but the first dial goes up to 125 psi on charging 115 psi is the where the red starts 175 psi is where the red stops and only cuts out in the red line is this normal

i am only just cheaking as i only use this for spraying and blowing dust,car pressure and just want to be safe

Welcome to the forums!

While I'm not familiar with that particular unit, 120 psi would likely be the maximum output. The 1st gauge tells how much pressure is in the tank, the 2nd works with the regulator and sets how much working pressure is released from the tank.

what i am looking at is the fact that the gauge is in the red befor powering down the danger zone acording to the gauge
or is this just normal

Yes, it is not right that the tank pressure operates in the red.

Some compressors, especially inexpensive ones are now coming set to higher pressures than needed.
Most air tools are designed to operate at 100 psi and much more than this just places wear on the compressor.
Make sure though that the gauge appears to be reasonably accurate. (When there is no pressure in the tank does the needle rest on zero?)

You can set this by making adjustments to the pressure switch but it is not always simple.
A good setting would be to cut off at 115 psi and come on at 90 psi.
This would give you decent cycling.

If you want to adjust the control describe the model of pressure switch you have or even better is if you are able to take a clear close-up picture and post it on a free site like Photo Bucket.

The pressure switch is the black box with the wires coming from it but I don't suggest you touch it unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing.
They often have two adjusting screws and you need to turn the right one.
The compressor model does not help with this and you either need to have the exact model of the switch or a clear close up picture of the insides of it.

how to get a close up pic would this be of the inside if the switch box or on the out side

there is a brass bit coming out of the side of the box with a plastic cover

We need to see what the inside looks like, specifically the adjustment screws if there are any.
Make sure it is unplugged.

Nice picture!

There should be some indication what each of the larger two springs adjust.
One should be something like "range" and the other "differential".
Sometimes they say "cut in" and "cut out" but not often.

You want to turn the nut on the spring that says range and you would turn it counter clockwise to loosen pressure on the spring.
Pay attention to the cut in and out before you change anything and write it down.
Turn the range screw one turn ccw to loosen pressure on the spring and see what happens.

so shall i ajust the left or the right hand side i could twist one turn at a time and count how meny times i have done it but what would happen if i done the right one would i see the differance right away eg the power stopping befor gauge goes in the red or would i have to trun a few times befor ajustment makes any diffrance

hi thanks for all your help have got it sorted now went out for an hour found the first one you see in pic the one that is the closest to you in the pic is the cut out the second is the start apon setting the first 3.5 turns counter clockwise set it at 115 psi just below the red line then moved the 2nd nut clock wise about 3 turns (set it at about 85psi) was needed then you needed to make small ajustments as moving one nut makes a small amount of differance to the other ajustment

all in all 3 turns counter clock on the first and then 3 clockwise on the second with small mucking about at the end

after doing this lost all the air and cleaned glass filter and all the air is now clean it was coming out at first with a little water in the first few blasts of air

ps have just cheaked the oil on the moter and i lookes to be a litte high (must have been like this for as long as i have had the air com for)

i only use the compresser for spraying my motor bikes only done 3 or 4 bikes blowing up tyres and cleaning out inside of pcs to get rid of all the dust

the oil level is about 5 mm above max as air com is sat on a fairly level floor

will i need to take out some of the oil or are there any cheaks i need to look at befor making oil ajustments

take a little out

You don't want the crankshaft hitting it, just the little dipper on the bottom of the con rod. Nothing to it but to loosen the drain bolt a little.
