Air Compressor and painting indoors

I am looking to paint an indoor room using a 3 gal craftsman compressor. my question is can you do this? the reason i plan on using this is all the walls have a texture to them which makes the roller a pain in the you know what.

is there a particular paint gun i should be looking for as well? beware this is my first air compressor that i will be purchasing soon.

thanks a bunch!!!

Sorry but it is not advisable to paint indoors with an air operated sprayer.

How an air sprayer works is that it sends a stream of air through the nozzle to carry the paint which causes an incredible amount of paint mist.
In addition to being a breathing hazard you would have a problem seeing in no time.

What you need is an airless sprayer.
Either a large high pressure piston type that atomizes the paint with no air behind it or a small Wagner type power painter.

Really, by the time you set up then clean the equipment one room would likely be faster to paint with a brush and roller.

Just use a larger nap on the roller and it should work fine.

I'm sure Mark or Sir will check in later and give better advice.

Oops....just saw where this post is..... you should copy your post over to the interior painting forum....

As noted above, you can't effectively spray your walls using an air compressor. Latex paints don't spray well with air, plus the overspray would be terrible. While an airless will spray most any coating [and I own 2] I rarely ever spray anything inside an occupied dwelling - to much work/time is wasted getting it in spray ready shape.. and clean up.

Without seeing your texture, I can only guess that a 3/4" nap roller would be the one to use. One trick to painting rough surfaces is to use plenty of paint. If you put enough paint on the wall, it will flow into all the crevices. After you've got it smeared on the wall - lightly back roll to make it look nice.

I second the 3/4" nap roller.
