Welcome to the forums! Pull the flywheel and clean the area inside the flywheel , especially the magnet, and clean the stationary mating part with emery cloth. The passing of the magnet over this stationary part causes a break in the current being generated by the coil and creates the spark. Let us know how it goes.

how do you lock up the flywheel so you can loosen it?

Stick a screwdriver down through the fins, but don't over torque it or you will break a fin. The nut should come off relatively easy with a socket and ratchet, but the flywheel itself may need coaxing with two screw drivers with equal pressure from two sides, prying upward.
