Hayward H250 heater?
I am trying to get my heater going and the pilot light will not stay lit. I go through the procedure and it lights correctly but, after holding it down for at least a minute, as soon as I release the control it goes out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Could be your pilot is not strong enough to create the millivolts needed or the pilot generator might be bad. It is common for spiders to spin web in pilots over winter and cause a lacking flame. Try cleaning the pilot.

I just kept trying and it finally stayed lit. I haven’t checked any voltage what do I check? Everything is as clean as can be expected, it’s 7 years old, but I don’t know of any filter on it. I don’t know about circulation as there isn’t anything flowing except the gas for the pilot light and it is burning good.

There still could be a web inside the pilot, take a small wire, bend a very small hook on end and run in and out of pilot holes. Circulation fefers to pool water running through heater. If you have voltmeter, check millivolts being produced on pilot generator.

The water is circulating just fine. I have a volt meter but I don't know where the reading should be taken for the pilot voltage. There is a line coming up from the pilot to the main control valve should I check this line?

The way this thing is built it’s impossible to get to the pilot without taking the whole heater apart. The wire that comes up from the pilot area to the main control valve shows .5 volts with my meter set on 2 volts DC.

Well I finally gave up and called a repair guy. The pilot generator wasn't putting out enough voltage and one the switches needed replacing. I had him replace all the switches and install a new generator everything is working fine now. Thanks for the help.
