Help with a new Maple Floor
I recently general contracted the installation of a Maple floor. I made the mistake of being the middle man and not getting the subcontractor involved with the customer meetings. Now I'm trying to not go broke and make the customer happy at the same time. We agreed to Maple and then she selected a deep brown stain with a hint of red. Much like a brazilian cherry floor would have turned out with a clear stain (hind site, huh?). Now it is installed, stained and 2 coats of poly and the customer is not happy with the color. It is lighter than she expected and there is too much color variation. Is there a way to mix stain with the poly to give it another coat or 2 and get a darker more uniform color? Please help, I'm really going to tak e abeating on this one.
Thanks
Thanks

Some people refuse to stain Maple. Try a wood conditioner and a stain much darker then what your trying to achieve.
Some also tint the seal coat, instead of staining. Careful doing that, as adhesion concerns can happen if you get carried away.

I would add that whenever you use a tinted poly you should follow up with a coat or 2 of clear poly to protect the color. If the tinted poly is allowed to wear, color will wear off also.
