Vinyl fence quality?
Is there any difference between buying a Vinyl fence from Lowes versus the local fence company (who, of course, costs much more and calls the stuff from HD or Lowes "inferior").
Doesn't look any different........

Ponder,
i'm w/ lefty.... there is a huge difference... not only will the thicknesses vary the type of materials used will vary....vinyl isn't just vinyl... its like a dogs...yes they are all dogs but there are a lot of different breeds.. UV protection should be a huge consideration this will have as much impact on the longevity of this expensive fence as anything. it may cost less up front but it will cost you more in the long run.

OK, I measured the stuff at Lowes, the vinyl they have uses 1/8" thick for posts and 1/16" thick for panels. It looked to be of uniform thickness.
Is that good or bad?
Another place I checked had 0.16" posts, so yeah, it's thicker, but .035" ( a little more than 1/32) isn't exactly a whole boatload of difference.
The stuff at Lowes is made by someplace called US fence in ohio, and they have a website (usfenceonline) and list the relevant ASTM properties. They add some TiO2 UV inhibitor and have a limited lifetime warranty.
Any ideas on what thickness should be?

The thickness is just the beginning. (I had to cut my previous reply short due to a phone call.) The UV inhibitors used is the other big difference, as rollacrc6 mentioned. And is it recycled or virgin vinyl? Personally, I would pay the few extra $$ and go with the fence supplier. That is where the fencing contractors buy theirs, and the fence supplier is going to carry a better grade of material.
