V.P. over Plywood and Lumber? (pictures)

V.P. over Plywood and Lumber? (pictures)
Ok, this will be a little long...
Anyway, I am building a wine cellar in my basement. I constructed an arched entry with iron gates that I was originally going to cover with Cultured Stone. But after I stuck the gates up I could see that the stone would present clearance problems with respect to the gates.
See picture of arch
So... I have decided to use Venetian Plaster on the arch and arch trim, and then border the trim and adjacent wall with the Cultured Stone.
Ok, now for the questions...
First, I constructed the arch using lumber and plywood thinking I would be hanging stone from it. But now that I have switched gears, I'm not sure how to (I have never applied V.P. before) fill in all the gaps and prepare the wood surface so that it will accept the V.P. product.
See picture of surface
Also, I have chosen the Behr V.P. product, but I have a question about translucency and using multiple colors to kind of simulate a marble effect.
Do I need to have it premixed using 2 or 3 colors, or just how is that done? (uh, or is it?
Thanks for the help. When I get this all done, I will post pictures and outline any comments that may be helpful to others.

Can Be done

I had to run out for a minute and I forgot what I was looking at so I am here again. Ok if you were going to use cultured stone, then do yourself a huge favor on this project, use authentic Marmorino Venetian Plaster on this project, you will be happier after, trust me.
OK, to the prep. Firstly you will have to prime everything with an acrylic primer and let dry. Then you will have to apply a plaster consisting of compound and plaster of paris and incorporate mash into this. Your drywall finishing is good so whoever did this for you will know what to do and how to go about this. All of the wood will have to be covered in this way.
Then when this is finished and a nice even surface of compound/plaster you will have to reprime and then it is ready for the Venetian Plaster finish. Venetian plasters come in different textures and you will be looking for some type of Marmorino. Hope this helps! Noel

Okay, I told you that I would post pictures as I progressed. But, I changed direction just a bit, as I found a product that I liked better than the VP - at least for this application. My wife still wants to use the VP in another room.
Anyway, the product is called Belllagio Faux by Behr.
It is actually closer to the look I was hoping to achieve - more of a rough stone. It turned out so well, and stands on its own, so I will only use the Cultured Stone on the cellar walls behind the iron gates.
Nonetheless, I promised pictures, so here it is with the arch done:
finished arch with gates
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Thanks, VPlasterman!! I am thrilled with the way that it turned out. You know how it is when you know what you want, but have no idea if you can pull it off or not. So there was a huge sigh of relief after that phase was complete. It's meant to be the main focal point as you enter the room, so it had to be right.
I have a lot of work yet to go. Next comes the construction of the wine racks which will all be encased with the cultured stone, so wish me luck.
I'll continue to post pictures as I progress.
Thanks again,
Brad

Mickid,
That's it. But if you're going to use that one, I would recommending swapping the top layer (orange) for the middle layer(tan). The orange color was way to hot, so I just reapplied the tan over the top, and it came out just as I had hoped.
Thanks for the nice comments.

Mickid,
The 3 colors I used are:
Base coat is gray
Middle coat is orange
Top coat is kind of mustard/gold (I think this one and the gray made it look a little green)
If you go into HD, they can probably come up with the combination that you are looking for.
Also, call the 800 number on the brochure. I found them to be pretty knowledgeable.
