Need Help - Craftsman lawn mower 6.0 HP
I have a Craftsman 6.0 HP lawn mower with a Eager-1 engine (one-pull start -model no. 917.388300). This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. When I start the engine after priming it, it starts and dies on me. After repeating a few times, the engine starts but the engine noise "raises and falls".
I am a newbie in this area. I tried replacing the sparkplug and the air filter, but this doesn't help. Can someone shed some light on this ?

Hello Jockey69!
You'll need to remove the carburetor bowl and clean it out, and clean out the bowl screw holes. There are 3...one in the center of the screw, one that goes all the way through one side and out the other near the head of the screw, and one tiny one that is in an unthreaded part of the screw near the end. This tiny one is usually the problem.

There's nothing really to take apart, just remove the screw/bolt that holds the bowl on the bottom of the carb.

Eager-1 Lawnmower Engine
I had the same issue as above.... I took the whole carb of and soaked it.. resealed and hooked it back up. Now I cant remember for the life of me how the hi low assembly was hooked up as well as the float. Can someone send me a picture of the assembly?

There is one thing to remember....when removing the float bowl, it has a high side and a low side. The low side always goes to where the float hinge is located so you can get the full swing of the float to allow the maximum amount of fuel into the float bowl.
As for a breakdown, go to this site http://www.cpdonline.com/692509.pdf
and they will have a breakdown of your type of carb here. You can follow the pictures if you run into difficulties.

Craftsman Mower Cold Start Stalls
I have the same problem with the same mower. It gradually got worse to the point now where I have to restart the mower a number of times before it will finally keep running without stalling. Once it gets warmed up it seems fine. It is also easy to start the first time, but difficult to start the second/third time unless I let it sit for a couple minutes. I've had the carb all apart, cleaned all the holes in the bowl screw, and gave it a general cleaning w/ carb cleaner...didn't change a thing. I'm about ready to trash the mower, but thought I'd give this a shot first. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may need to remove the nozzle and replace the orings on it if the rest of the carb is in order. Did you find the tiny hole near the end of the bowl screw?

Thanks, I did find the very small hole at the end of the bowl screw. I made sure it was clear. The nozzle didn't look like it was going to just slide out (I'm not a pro). What is the preferred method for removing the nozzle, and the only place I know of to get the "O" ring is Sears Parts online. Is there another place I could look?

Most any small engine shop should have them. They are tecumseh parts common to many different tecumseh engines. If the nozzle is plastic, take a screwdriver and push it down from the inside where it sticks up from the bottom of the carb throat. Then pull it out the bottom.
