tweaking xp

Mike,
there's a few other things you could do such as turning off unnecessary services that XP loads, but that generally only helps a little. The other thing you could do is switch over the "Classic Mode" instead of the "cutsie" XP default. Also, "adjust for best performance" would also help out. Feel free to ask more questions. Probably the best thing you can do to "tweak" Windows XP is to go to the local library and see if you can get a hold of some copies of old Maximum PC magazines. Specifically, there have been 1 or 2 issues within the last 12 months about tweking XP for performance. See if you can locate them. Shouldn't be that hard. Going through the services one by one without those would be a pain. Check 'em out!
Good luck, and ask away if you need anything else!

One of the most recomended sites I know of for info about services is BlackViper:http://www.blackviper.com
For the xp services:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
just remember that messing with the services can make some things not work in the future. just because you don't need it now doesn't mean you wont need it later! make changes at your own risk.

Tae, I just wanted to tell you I thank you bunches for your URL to black viper. Because I also have WinXP Pro, I knew there was services I needed to disable, but did not know which ones. With Vipers extensive knolodge on WinXP Home and WinXP Pro, I was able to get my P4 2GHZ to run even faster.

There is another great XP tweaking site at http://www.updatexp.com/ that you all can look at, too. Between this and BlackViper, they cover just about everything!
