patio blocks
I have semi-excavated (sod only) a 20x10 area under my walkout deck. My next step is to excavate entirely. My 18" patio blocks will be here in a few days.
I've done quite a bit research as to how I want to do this.
My understanding is to excavate approx 5" level, then add 4" compactible gravel, compact, then 1" sand, compact then blocks, compact then fill with sand.
If I have total sand soil are there any steps that could be eliminated? How important is the gravel? I am in Minnesota and as far as drainage, above deck is fitted with gutter system so most water will be diverted.
Also is there a formula to figure out how much gravel and sand I would need based on the 4" and 1"?
Thanks very much.

Blocks
Hi,
My advice: don't use sand for drainage.

ok, things went well. Patio that is, my body is another story.
I am pretty much finished laying the blocks. I have another ?.
I have some cutting to do at various points. What is the best way to do this. I read elsewhere about a masonry blade for my circular saw. I believe it was a Dewalt, $20.
Is this the way to go with these 18" blocks? And how does that work, just set it on the ground to cut?
Thanks
