Do I need a protective coat over glazed cabinets?

We simply cannot afford replacement, SO, I have glazed my thermofoil cabinets. I realize this is not a long term solution, but it will buy me time until I can replace 53 cabinet doors and drawers.

1) I used "No sand" to degloss my doors, then,
2) I used 1qt each of Benjamin Moore's alkyd glaze and satin impervo paint. Honestly, they look good. (If I would to do this again, I feel like SW has a LITTLE bit better adhesion. I tried both, but BM was smoother and easier to apply.)

Since I did not prime, paint, and then glaze , would anybody recommend a protective coating over the glaze? Polyurethane?

I don't often do any faux finishes but it would seem reasonable that a coat of clear would protect your finish from wear. Oil base poly will wear the best but will amber the color you have. Waterbased dries clear and doesn't yellow.

If I put an oil based poly over my current glazing, how should I apply it? with a brush, sprayer? I do not want to streak my glazing. The ambering is less important than the duration of the paint.

Spraying almost always gives the nicest finish but a good job can be had with a brush without the worry of overspray. As long as the glaze is dry/cured the poly shouldn't hurt it.

CAUTION: I wouldn't put a waterborne over that Impervo oil. You may want to check with BM on this cause I'm not so positive a poly will work either.
