Snowblower's traction drive cable disconnects at handle

I have a Craftsman snowblower. During it's last use, the Z-shaped connecter which links the traction drive cable to the handle popped out. I am able to reconnect it, but every time I depress the handle, thereby putting stress on the cable, it pops out again. Has anyone experienced anything like this and know how to correct it?

Ken

Please post the model number. Sounds like you may need a new lever(handle).

Model number

model number is 536.887992. However, I looked at both parts closer when I got home tonight and it looks like the Z fitting itself is cracked. I'm betting that's my problem and I need to replace the cable.
