Simplicity Garden Tractor

My Dad has a (year) 1982 Simplicity garden tractor, model 6216, Manufact# 1690688-1671
It's having probs going into 2nd and 3rd gear. He's being told (here locally--northeast Indiana) that NO PARTS are available.
Is this true, and if so, is there a source for after market parts, or good used trannies. This tractor looks like NEW....honestly...
