Yamaha Big Bear 350 - need to adjust so green nuetral light stays on

I need some help. When I shift to neutral the green light does not stay on. I have to start the machine by holding in the hand brake. How do I adjust the shift linkage to get the green light to stay on when in neutral?

Thanks

Is it in neutral - the tranny free wheels with the clutch out? If so, the light is just an indicator of the circuit continuity to allow starting. You can go down to the safety switch on the tranny and see if it has came loose from the casing or possibly a wire connection is causing a problem. If all is well there, the switch could be at fault.

Once you have it in neutral, that's about all the shift linkage has to do.

I checked out the wiring and all seems to be in order. If I push the shifter al the way down while in neutral and let if come up a little at a time, the green light comes on but does not stay on when the shifter comes all the way up. That is why I thought it was some sort of adjustment in the shift linkage.
Any other suggestions. I can start it by applying the hand brake but I would like to start it the way it used to be.

Thanks.
