maytag neptune top loader just quit

i have a model fav 9800 aww top load neptune thats about 5 years old and it just stopped working between or during a normal washing cycle. it has a touch screen control, and of course the lid was locked and needed to be opened by opening the top of the machine and releasing the lid latches by hand. there were needed clothes in the machine we finnished by hand.

there were no codes on the touch screen, the unit just "hung up" or stoped, leaving the computer inactive. nothing worked on the screen when touched.

i unplugged it for a few hours, hoping it would reset itself and it may have, but still would not run. the screen now responds to commands but it still will not run. the message that appears on the top of the screen says the lid is not locked, and it is not.

i locked the lid by opening the top, and then closed the top. now the control says the lid is locked but the machine will still not run.

i have searched for information about this model and none seems to exist or i am not asking the proper question with my search request.

i have had the lower part of the machine apart to replace the clutch unit a month or so ago and it has been running ok up to this point. i am not afraid to dismantle it again but i would like to know what to look for.

anyone have any ideas or suggestions ?

thanks in advance,

davidh (the old guy)

Open consul should be a tech sheet in there. Will need it for the test to be run. The other washer that helped put Maytag out of business.
