G.E fridge model gss22kgmd bb not working

My side by side G.E fridge model gss22kgmd bb is not working. The freezer is cool but not freezing. It no longer makes ice blocks. The fridge is warm. I have unplugged it overnight, it improved a little bit but not much difference now. Pls. help!

Is the compressor constantly running in attempt to cool? And is the freezer fan running? And are the hot coils under the unit relatively clean? And is the fan down there running? If yes, to all answers, the verdict is grim: leaked out refrigerant or compressor not running up to snuff.

If any of the other things I mentioned are not right or not working, then they can be reasonably fixed and are at least possibly DIY-able, where the other is not.

The answer to all the questions in your first paragrph is 'Yes'; only that I have not checked the hot coils under. I noticed though that frost has formed on the back freezer wall(inside the freezer compartment)

You haven't checked the bottom coils, but do know that the botton fan is running? If it is running, your next step should be to remove the rear liner from inside the freezer(an easy task on most units requiring only a relatively few number of screws in there to be removed) to see what the coils look like - to see if they are all froze up, and maybe blocking other passages.
