My two year old dishwasher is now not starting when I push the START button. After many attempts over 24 hours I got it to start the other day but then it stuck in the wash cycle for nearly 30 minutes. When I stopped the cycle it then did a short dry cycle without any of the lights on the dispaly on. I believe it is an electrical issue, but have no idea. Any thoughts?

Last night I did the same song and dance, pushing the button numerous times without success. Then, as if it was a miracle, it started running the cycle, which it ran all the way through. It has no problem filling with water, but that is usually it, once the water is full it stops and the lights go out on the unit.

I'd imagine your machine is digital. I have now just been starting to replace old fashion ones with digital ones. Replaced 3 in about 3 months now. I have not had the opportunity to work on these new ones yet.

But I'd guess the problem is is a malfuntion with the control board within it. The first thing I'd do with any appliance that has a control board malfuntion is to first turn off the power source to see if it will reset itself.

But it probably needs a new board, or there is some kind of internal leak with soap water causing corrosion by control board/connectors or loose wire connector.

This is going to have to be one of those deals where you weigh out first maybe going in (the door panel?, is my guess) and taking a look for anything obvious. And if that does not show anything obviously bad, then either you call up the tech and he charges you, or you chance it and buy a new board and cross your fingers.

Make sure the water inside is hot and that the door latch latches good, to rule these out as a cause for shutdown. And you may have to test the latch interlock switch to be sure, perhaps with power off, doing an ohms test, so that water spray or other mechanical operation does not occur if you energize the switch with the door open!
