Question Irratic Furnace

I had an electronic thermostat set up on 4 wirs plus the blue C power wire.

The furnace began to act strangely, failing to fire and the thermostat failed to register the correct temperature in the house. ( It got cold alot )

Short Story: I bought a new electronic thermostat and set it up. oddly, over the past few days, I have more reliable heat, but similarly, I cant control when the heat actually turns on. I turned the heat up on the house 3 hrs ago, and it turned on just as I sat down to type this.

Is this a Thermostat issue or is my furnace dying s slow death?
Any Ideas? HELP!
