5 minute fence stain

Has anyone tried this '5 minute fence stain'?

http://www.fiveminutefence.com/?gclid=CMOmg7uhqYsCFRVQUAodqVPReA

It looks to be pretty cool, but you know what they say, too good to be true. I tried to call a few of the retailers that carry the product to get their views on it and one didn't carry it and another phone number was a fax number, so I came here. Its 40 bucks per quart for 100ft of a 6ft privacy fence. I have 175ft of picket fence, so 40 bucks would be a deal for me and not have to break out any brushes. Take a look at this website or let me know if anyone has tried this.
Thanks,
Hoggman

I'd be leary of any coating that is applied with the use of a water hose!

I'm sure it will color a fence quickly but I'm skeptical that it will build a protective film on the wood.

Thanks marksr,
I agree, however here is a direct quote (noting the source is- THEM)

"Unlike other stains which can contain over 60% water, 5-Minute Fence contains no added water. It is a highly concentrated pigment and resin solution that receives its water from a standard garden hose. One bottle of 5-Minute Fence is equal to four gallons of ordinary stain. With our special “metered” spray nozzle, you get the same precise dilution ratio regardless of water pressure. 5-Minute Fence bonds with the wood to provide UV protection and a great look."

My only problems with this statement is that most stains are NOT 60% water. Plus, UV protection is not the only thing a good stain protects the wood from. I am leary of this product. But the idea of spending 8 hours in the sun brushing on stain will get me to try anything. Got any other suggestions to applying stain? I am an ex-painter so I can move pretty quick, but I get tired just thinking about it.

What type of fence do you have? I don't paint a lot of fences but usually either spray or roll. On a stockade type fence I like to spray, backroll and spray again....... but a lot depends on the coating used and the surrounding conditions.

5-Minute Fence Stain

I have tried the 5-Minute Fence Stain and I am quite impressed.
We were talked into trying it by a guy at our local hardware store. We applied it to our fence last June. It took a little longer than advertised. We spent just over an hour to apply it to 325 feet of fence. I also wish they had more just one color. I don't think everyone wants their fence to be the same color.
I was also told by the hardware store to make sure you rinse it off of the driveway and sidewalk because it will stain concrete.

Angry Buyer beware!

I'll give this product 1 of 5 stars simply for ease of use, although not as easy as promised and definitely more than 5 minutes unless you're only staining a small space. I was very dissapointed for 2 main reasons: it stained my house and concrete, and did not have good coverage. According to the bottle, it washes away easily if sprayed with water. Let me tell you, this stuff goes everywhere! I tried to keep the sprayer as low as possible while still mixing (if you go too low, it stops mixing the stain), but even on a low setting, the spray hit everything within a 12 foot radius, including my neighbor's rod iron fence that I thought was far enough away to avoid. I immediately sprayed down the unintended areas with water but it was already too late after only maybe 20 seconds. Then it got darker, of course, so by the next day my house, concrete, and neighbor's black fence was spattered with reddish splatters. I might have been less upset if the product had actually done the job on my fence, but it didn't and now I'm going to have to do it again with an old fashioned paint roller. The stain was very uneven, appearing to only have splattered the fence rather than smooth even coverage. Granted, my fence is about 4 years old, but I'd cleaned it first with the 5-minute fence cleaner (again, don't waste your money), and the bottle does say that it works best on new fences. It should have restated that as "don't bother trying this if your fence is not new".

I applaud them for trying to make the long and boring process of wood staining a little easier, but it needs some major improvements before it's a viable replacement.

Exclamation Horrible!

This product is terrible - end of story. I bought it because it seemed incredible - but DON'T believe the marketing! It's a mess to use, drips, doesn't coat evenly, the sprayer is so unreliable that it sprays everywhere over everything - it's a terrible product. But worse than that is the company wouldn't take it back. Check out their website - no where do they give any contact info other than an email form. No one responded to my querries. Finally, after threats they asked me to fill out a form for an RMA # but then never sent me the number! It's a total scam - do NOT purchase anything from this company! BEWARE!!! They are frauds!!!

Hoggman,

Mr Barnum said that there was one born every minute. Reread grksher's post and make up your own mind.
