aiwa av- d57 kenwood 307 subwoofer mitsubishi vs-60609 tv

How do I connect my mitsubishi tv to my aiwa receiver and my kenwood sub woofer so that the sub woofer will play? I hooked the front and rear speakers up and they will play but not at the same time. The sub woofer will never come on.

thanks.

I can't find any tech info about the Aiwa, but generally you connect the TV's RCA outputs to the TV or Aux input of the receiver. Connect the front left, center, front right, rear left, and rear right speakers to the appropriate terminals and connect the sub out (usually an RCA cable) to the subwoofer. The subwoofer must be powered -- it won't work from the receiver's RCA sub output if it doesn't have a built-in power amp.

The rest is in the settings. Flip through the receiver's menus to make sure the sub is turned on, and make sure surround sound is on. If you don't hear surround, try "All Channel Stereo" or a test selection to make sure all of the speakers are working.

The TV may not be capable of outputting surround sound, or the signal from the cable or dish may not contain surround encoding. (The RF output from channel 2 of a dual DishTV receiver, for example, isn't encoded.)
