concord 4 wiring phone

ok so I got the alarm all in and even called up a monitoring company. We did a test but I realized I had no phone lines...

so I troubleshot it out..

long story short... adt originally didnt wire the phone line to the rj45 block right..

they didnt put red/red black/black green/green white/white..

so after I hooked all that up... I had dialtone at the alarm panel... outter 2 pins..

I then hit the center 2 and realized I had to hookup the black and yellow as I used the red and green to the panel..

anyway... I just tested the alarm again..

1. Can I enter my cell phone number as a number for the house to call?

if so how does one set that up?

2. after setting the alarm off.. after time I had dial tone then lost it... guessing the alarm took over....

now the alarm never called my cell (I put my phone number in where the alarm rep told me to put their number)

disabled the alarm and had dialtone again so guessing that is right...

now my delema is the alarm panel at the keypad said phone dial error or something....

how can I figure out the problem on the phone side????? I dont know much about the alarm phone side but can tell you this much...

1. wire outside is red/green being used and black/yellow off to the side...

2. wire enters house and is split.... yellow/black go into the wall where the red and green run elsewhere..... now at the alarm panel I have red/green going to alarm and yellow/black as what I am guessing is feeding the house from the alarm panel...

at the concord 4 panel the outter 2 are the red and green... the inner 2 are the black and yellow....

so if I havent confused ya enough... hopefully someone knows......

Thanks
~Jeff

It sounds like they wired the telco into the panel without using a RJ-31x jack (a bozo no-no).

The terminals marked for green & red are for the incoming telco line, the Brown & Grey are to return the house phones to the rest of your jacks. That's why you need both pair for the system to dial out properly.

The system had the failure because I suspect that you had it in wrong, in some way, so the call never got completed.

You also have to use pager format, or the thing will dial repeatedly and still show a comm failure because a regular phone cannot provide the "kiss-off" tone needed to complete the call.

Really, it's very hard to tell what you your issue is. You might have the telco wiring reversed, in which case the system disconnects itself every time it tries to dial. You might have the phone number incorrectly entered, in which case you might be calling Timbuktu...

If by chance you mean this as a RJ-31x... then yes they did use one....

The terminals marked for green & red are for the incoming telco line,

They run to the alarm panel..... and I have dial tone
so im assuming that the red and green feed the outters and the middle two (brown and grey) feed the house..... and if the alarm needs the line it drops the brown and grey so if you are on the phone it can have the line..... well that seems good and works.....

I think they do that...
1 wire enters house... green and red are cut and run to alarm... yellow and black are the returns back to the phones.......

seems correct.... phones in house are working fine... set the alarm off.. and in a bit no phone in the house has dial tone.... at the panel you hear a click as in a relay click... then the house has dial tone again...

You also have to use pager format, or the thing will dial repeatedly and still show a comm failure because a regular phone cannot provide the "kiss-off" tone needed to complete the call.

Ok maybe this is where my issue is.... I originally had a phone wiring issue... when i tried testing with the monitoring company.... now I never really finished setting up with them so they dont have my credit card info or anything... so maybe they dont have me enabled.... I had their phone number and an account number set... guessing the account number is so they know who is dialing in... maybe that isnt enabled on their end.....

I entered my cell phone number in there where they had their number.... wouldnt that dial my cell phone? at least I should see my house number show up on my cell????

you say i have to use a pager format.... how do I set that?
I did see under phones... CS Phone 1 and Pager Phone

I setup my cell phone number under pager phone 1 also..... is that correct???

not sure how to tell that one.... red and green enter house and go to red and green at alarm so im guessing that is right...

I have the phone number set as 18561234567 so change 1234567 to my house phone number.....
... my comments in bold
and thanks for the help as i appreciate it...

I just went down an figured out how they have it wired...

1. wire comes in
2. wire sheathing is split and red/green are cut and seperated out...
3. red/green go to new wire red/green back to panel
4. yellow/black come back from panel in that pair of wire and connect back to red/green thus comleting the circuit for the alarm and house phones...

so with that said... red and green are dial out for alarm which are first..... then yellow and black go to cut part of yellow and black making rest of house circuit....

I was able to figure out how to disable the monitoring company phone number...
didnt know i could go to the phone number and press a key to clear it... then save it.... so hopefully my alarm isnt trying to dial out..

still would like to know how to send alarm call to my cell phone.....

thanks
Jeff

Delete any CS phone numbers in the PHONES menu (3 possible)

Put your cell phone # in pager phone 1.

You will not get any information from the panel by doing this (it can't talk to a cell phone), it'll just call you and you'll hear "static", but if your phone can handle numeric paging, then your in business.
