Replacing/Upgrading keypad on a vista-10SE

I have a Vista 10SE system monitored by ADT. One of the two keypads (either 6127 or 6128) has started getting flaky. You need to push some of the keys really hard for them to register and a couple don't really work at all. This means that we almost always use the other pad.

I've called ADT about repairing or replacing this keypad, but it sounds like it will be very expensive. Now, they've told me that it isn't possible to replace my own keypad, but something tells me that isn't entirely true.

Is it possible for me to buy a new keypad and replace it myself? I am pretty handy with electronics, but don't know what I need to know in terms of registering/reprogramming, etc..

or one like it pick the keypad you want but no touchscreen keypad
and when you get the new one just a few things to do
1.power down the system
2.remove old keypad
3.mount new backplate
4.wire the the new keypad
5.pop in to place
6.power up system

ADT is telling me that any new keypad must be programmed when it is installed AND that all keypads must be replaced at the same time.

True?
