Need advice on new kitchen outlets

Hi,

We're remodeling our kitchen (100-yr-old house) and I've planned out where all the countertop outlets will need to go, according to the NEC. Here's the issue: a 15" section of countertop needs its own GFCI outlet, but the section of wall behind the countertop is brick from floor to ceiling. (The rest of the wall is standard framing.)

Obviously I can't run wire or fit a box in that brick wall. What are my options? All I can think of so far is to bring the wire through the framed section of the wall, and then out into the wall cabinets above the countertop, and then mount the box at the bottom of the wall cabinet, so the outlet is facing down, accessible from the underside of the wall cabinet.

Is this feasible? If so, what's the best way to do something like this?

Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

Or you could consider Wiremold.

What about mounting the receptacle in the side of the cabinet less than 6" below the counter?

Putting it into the upper cabinet over the counter top is OK as long as it is 20" or less. I have also seen plugmold (made by Wiremold) run on the bottom of the upper or just under the lip of the counter top.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'd rather not put the receptacle on the side of the base cabinet for safety reasons, since it would be right by the back door. The plugmold looks promising -- but I also wanted to put a 3-way switch for the ceiling light next to the receptacle.

So far I'm leaning toward running conduit through the wall cabinet for the receptacle and 3-way switch. Some followup questions:

- Should I use plastic or metal conduit, or does it matter?
- Can I run the 2 nm cables (one 12/2 and one 14/3) directly inside the conduit? What size conduit would I need?
- Do I have to clamp/attach the conduit at the point where it comes out of the wall and into the cabinet? How should I do this? (This is also the same spot where the 12/2 cable for the microwave will come out of the wall into the cabinet above.)

Thanks again.
