Paypal seems to be a safe way to pay on line and I wonder if it can be used for most purchases. I ask because it is the only way we pay BUT have given our credit card info to airlines, hotels, a some other ?reputable places. It is to bad every place does not accept payment from a known secure source. Please move me if I am in the wrong forum or please respond if you have some appropriate information to contribute. Thank you | 07-31-09, 01:30 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Minnesota Posts: 4,485 | | | I have used Paypal for several years without a problem and no apparent security problems, but my information screened by my system. No problem with making reservations for cars and hotels as long as you go through the chains website. You wil always get a prompt confirmation and proof of using the site. I have never had an occasion to use the proof. I have never, ever had a problem. The majors have a lot at stake and cannot afford a problem. I have more of a worry about my wife visiting QVC and Myspace(?) and all the the other junk that my security may not catch soon enough from leeches. I agree with what you say and hope the places where credit cards are needed will take pay pal. | 07-31-09, 03:14 PM | | Super Moderator | | Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: PA home of Phil and Gus Posts: 1,424 | | | Paying with a credit card is safe and secure too. Do you feel it's not? I use both credit cards and paypal and haven't had any problems with either. The good thing about credit cards is, if a suspicious charge is made, they will call you right away to check if it was you, and if there's a problem with a purchase that can't be resolved, it's easier to have a chargeback made. Paypal can be convenient in that you just have to remember your password to make a purchase. __________________ "The disappointment of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of the bargain, or the reason for the rush to get it, is gone." I am not comfortable with credit cards online but we use them when necessary. Our family and friends have had problems at stores with integrity and once someone accesses your credit card a lot of damage can be done. I know it is recoverable but I don't like to create the situation in the first place. My wallet was stolen and even though I called the credit card quickly, company someone had abused it. I was asking about Paypal and it seems to be a good idea. My wife does not have an account per se as she infrequently uses on line shopping but, when she does, she uses the Paypal option at the particular store. A bit more typing but it is secure through the Paypal system. I know people who do bill pay online and their pcs are not secure. I can't believe it. A keylogger could have a ball. The answer may be in securing your machine and purchase when necessary and at places that are known for integrity ,as much as is possible. Thank you for your input, I appreciated it. My account with PayPal was frozen one because somebody tried to get my funds there. Just by that, I was sure that they are trustworthy. Just don't use a bank card online. The disadvantage of using paypal is that you have to follow their rules and policies, no matter if they violate yours. Many people have sued paypal for right violation, and all the people always win. But because they are a multimillion dollar company, they don't care about the few dollars that they lose in law suit. Last edited by the_tow_guy; 10-19-09 at 06:01 AM.
