Time a car goes unsold at dealership

Does anyone know how long a car has to go unsold before a dealer becomes antsy and is willing to lower their price?

There are still brand new 2008 models at some dealerships in my area. If they can't move them, they will sell them to other dealers who have interested customers.
As to used cars, I have a friend in Illinois who will go 300 + miles to pick up a car fitting a local dealers customer request. Other dealers send slow movers to an auto auction.

Dealer's will deal, but they have to make a profit to stay in business. If you expect a dealer to sell at a loss, you may have a long wait.
