an odd question

Whenever I see an ad for a new car on TV, I can't help but notice that they all have license plates either stamped into the metal, or painted over to match the color of the vehicle. They all have them. Why?
I can see either just putting a real license plate on, or leaving it off altogether. After all, the commercials say "professional driver on closed course". Why would they even need a license plate in that situation? Just curious. And bored, apparently.

I'll pay more attention...if I see any car commercials...lol.

You know the vehicles used in the ads are not registered or sold. They use 'em for ads and promo's, keep 'em for a while then off to the crusher.

I would think it's fairly obvious why real license plates aren't used concerning ID issues and such so they just create a fake one to fill in where one would be to give you an idea of how it looks etc.
