Hi, I just moved into my new condo. it has two bedrooms and one living room. all of them share the same wall which is full of windows. There are quite a lot of sunlight in the afternoon and there's another building in front of my patio. So I want to buy window blinds for all rooms. The blocking building only block half of the mountain view so I want to have top-down and bottom-up blinds. The largest window is 125"x125" (3 of them in total). There are also 3 40"x125" window doors opening into the patio. The cheapest price I get is about $4600. That's not cheap at all. Do you think it's worthwhile to spend this much money on blinds? Will that increase re-sale value? This is my first home so I'm not quite sure about the spending. I can go for the basic bottom-up or left-right blinds which can save me some money but won't be a perfect design for my situation. Any suggestion? Thanks! | 10-06-09, 07:55 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Minnesota Posts: 4,486 | | | If you are handy, you can order anything you want in the way of custom blinds from "Just Blinds" on something like that. They sell blind from most major manufacturers direct and are great to deal with. I had great luck and customer service when I thought I needed help, but really did not if I had read correctly. My three purchases were not as large as yours, but I had the choice of many lines, fabrics and textures - the same as the designers get. I bought some custom blinds (just odd size 1" slats with on a single headrail split sections with strange cord and twist situations and locations) that I got in 5 days for much cheaper than HD and much quicker and it appeared they came customized from the manufacturer. They are worth a look if you want to install yourself or have someone do the installation. - A nice touch was when I ordered a vertical blind of rediculous dimensions that was to be used as a temporary interior privacy wall. They included several extra vertical sections in case a replacement would have been needed in the future. I was smart enough to figure that out and not embarass myself with a call. In most cases installation is not difficult if you take the dimensions according to the instructions and let them adjust for the "fine tuning" for installation. Personally i think it's a great investment and worth the money to get what you desire in the first place. It will also help for resale. | 10-08-09, 02:20 PM | | Topic Moderator | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Northern AZ Posts: 6,977 | | | $4600 to cover 6(?) windows???? Thats just crazy to me...maybe if I was Warren Buffet I wouldn't care. If the buyers don't like your style..then it won't add a darn thing to the price. __________________ Vic I'm no expert, but don't tell my wife that. | 10-08-09, 03:08 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Minnesota Posts: 4,486 | | | 10' to 12' headers with bottom up and top down can get expensive. Not too many people want to go DIY on things that size AND the dealers know that. That is a very high profit sale! That is why I suggested a direct purchase if you want to install your self or hire a person to do it. It is not that hard and the instructions are very good (including the phone support from any on-line site). The key is getting good dimensions and know what or how to attach the rails to. You can get free samples of the fabrics also in a day or two. Just make sure you have a good ladder(s) and a friend to hold things up if you are dealing with long or high headers. Then, those windows are pretty big, which makes it pretty pricey, since custom blinds are usually charged by the square foot. On top of that, he wants TDBU which is like getting two shades in one, and there will be an upcharge. __________________ "The disappointment of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of the bargain, or the reason for the rush to get it, is gone." Next, the geese will move in and chase everything away before the fly off (if the really do). Blinds are really not intimidating to install if you have the right size (only yourself to blame),you follow the instructions and take your time.
