We have just moved into a new home. We are renting. We have a very tight budget for improvements. The landlords are not going to reimburse.
The childrens' play room has a dirty green carpet that needs to be removed. It will not come clean. I would like to paint the plywood subfloor as a temporary fix until we can level the floor and purchase carpet.
Can I paint it? If so, what type of paint should I use? How should I prepare the floor beforehand?
Thank you,
MichelleWI

Michelle,
I'm about to do the exact same thing! I've gathered my advice and have not applied it yet. Here's the instructions:
First level down any high spots and sink nails. Then paint the rouge surface with oil based KILZ sealer/primer. Next (or up to 3rd) day, fill and smooth with a putty of FIXALL and let dry thoroughly. Then paint with an oil/alkyd paint. 3 days to dry at least before placing anything on it.
Since oils come in bold primary colors, I plan to draw a couple squigly lines on the primer across the room just to puzzle in 2 or 3 different colors. I'm going to have to mix my own purple. Be creative, make it a masterpiece!
