I've painted several pieces of furniture using a good quality semi gloss latex paint. But I'm somewhat dissatisfied because there are very visible ridges and brush marks left in the finish. What can I do to repair or repaint to avoid this?

Spraying would be the most obvious choice for this type of work but if it is not possible, a good high quality nylon brush is a must.
You could also try adding the Flood Company's Floetrol to your paint. Floetrol is a paint "leveler" that extends the dry time of latex paints and helps to minimize brush strokes. Be careful though, add only an ounce or 2 per gallon particularly to semigloss as it will tend to cut down on sheen.
