Hi,
I was reading an article the other day about Jacobs chucks and it said that the key should be used in all three positions when tightening up the chuck. This is supposed to give an even pressure on the shank of the tool or bit being used thus lessening the possible slippage of the tool.

Good advice Trent,
I do that on my drill press and I don't even know the chuck mfg.
