we have a gas bbq in a patio that we are converting to a gas fireplace.
we pulled out the bbq grill insert and want to place the grate and logs in that area. the question is---
we are putting fire bricks underneath the grate, but does the sides of the fireplace also have to have fire bricks surrounding it?
right now that area is just regular bricks that the fireplace itself is made of.
hope i've explained it well enough.
thanks just sam

Vented gas logs have the same requirements as a traditional combustible fuel fireplace. Unvented logs also produce a tremendous amount of heat. Follow manufacturer's instructions carefully. A professional inspection and installation would assure safety.
