I am trying to paint some oak furniture and am using a behr high gloss indoor/outdoor enamel. it is suppose to dry to a mirror finish. i am getting frustrated because i cannot get it to a mirror finish. i have cleaned it with tsp and used steel wool to make sure all the old finish was off (it is over 70 years old). i used a primer and an expensive brush. i have also tried using a sponge brush and spraying it. please help. i really want the shiny finish.

Cheat:

Sand with 600 grit or better and polish it to a high sheen with a rubbing compound such as Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and Scratch Remover.

That's how I get a mirror finish on clear coats - it will work equally well with a good paint.
