We installed ( well, my husband installed) Columbia clic flooring on the lower level of our home. For several months it was fabulous. Quiet, beautiful, blah, blah, blah....Anyway, now it clicks. It sounds as if we are walking across bubble wrap. This would be fabulous if I was 8 yrs. old and still into the bubble wrap thing but I'm not, I'm 35 and I can't stand the noise. We have put a lot of money into remodeling our older Alaskan home, and now we are thinking about pulling up this floor and putting in ceramic tile. We followed all of the instructions to the letter about letting the floor aclimate and get warm fuzzy feelings before we made it a permanent part of our home. We installed a new subfloor and moisture barrier under the house. You can here the poping from right on top. Help! Any advice would be helpful as I am about to pull the floor up myself while my husband is away at work for several days........Then I will be going to some quiet spa somewhere....

Several things could be going on here and without inspecting the site and the installation it will be difficult to arrive at a conclusion. Now that it's warm the floor will expand some, sounds like it was installed during the much colder winter season. How large is the area and how wide are the expansion gaps? Was the sub floor flatness measured to insure that it is within the manufacturers tolerance? What is the subfloor material and construction? Tell us about the moisture barrier UNDER the house. Was a foam underlayment used and was tape used at the joints? If so what type of tape? Sub floor flatness and expansion restriction are the most common cause of this complaint.

Thanks for the reply. When I installed the floor I had quite a bit of repair work to do. The original floor was 3/4 plywood. I tried to get it as flat without measuring as I could, then I put down new 3/8 a/c plywood( screwed and liquid nailed). I then put down the Columbia underlayment, which is basically 1/16 foam with self adhesive edges. Then I put down about 400 sq feet of flooring. I installed the flooring around an island and up to the cabinets in the kitchen. Then along two walkways, one to the garage, the other to the front door. The expansion gaps range from 1/4 to 1/2 inch. As for the vapor barrier under the house I just made sure it had no holes in it and that it covered all the ground. I feel the problem could possibly be floor flatness? But who knows.
