Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Curved border w/ laminate flooring

Actually I suppose this is two questions. Looking at putting in carpet and a laminate floor (one of the tile-looking ones, not a faux wood one) in our basement.

First, can a floating floor be installed in only part of a room? E.g. - carpet in the majority of the room with a section being laminate? This is probably a silly question, but I've never seen one installed except for wall to wall.

Second, can it be installed with a curved border to carpet? We have two doors that we want to have the laminate near, and would like to curve the border instead of having a sharp, cornered look. Again, something I've never seen done with laminate.

The answer to both questions is YES. The radius installation though, isn't going to be easy for a DIY'er.

Thanks... and actually not planning to do this part of the project myself. Living near Dalton, GA means very, very cheap flooring prices, and I'm willing to pay a pro to do the install :)
