Owner of New construction home:

Would like opinion on Arcoaire brand vs. typical residential brands (Carrier, Bryant, etc).

Have a friend who is Arcoaire dealer - have received quote on several models of Arcoaire central air ......... is this a good, well-made, reliable brand ?????

Home is 3000 sq ft, on main and upper floors, basement is approx 2200 sq ft.....(not all will be finished)

Is a 5-ton unit enough, just right or too much for this size home?

Opinion on SEER that should be chosen........

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the response. (Not to worry, I'm not the put down type of person) - Just looking for opinions of others.

This friend has also recommended getting a unit w/ scroll compressor, so sounds like we should go that route. Don't know why -

I can't find anything on the net regarding quality of Arcoaire product - will have to try consumer reports - I believe it is a commercial brand - so maybe no one has used for a residential application.

I'm concerned about finding someone to service Arcoaire brand - I think it may be harder to find service for this brand than for Carrier, Bryant, etc---and this is what may sway decision to go with more "popular" brand.............................

In some parts of the country it doesnt pay to go with more than a 10SEER, some areas a 14 is worth every penny

Depends on cliamate, electric rates, heat load of house, cost difference of new units.

If you don't size/install corredctly all that SEER you just paid premium $$ for is worthless.

The CONTRACTOR doing the work is MUCH more important than the brand of equiptment !!!

A Properly sized and installed 10 SEER unit will give you lower electric bills than a 12 SEER poorly installed or oversized unit.

Most contractors LOVE to oversize heating and air which reduces complaints on 100 degree days but also costs on your electric bill (most customers won't call about a high bill in july)
