I have a residential furnace and hot water heat that I am going to be enclosing. I plan to make an opening to a crawl space (that is vented to the outside) for combustion air. How large should I make the combusion air opening?

I don't know right away and this would take some research. The water heater is a standard residental 40-50 gallon unit and the is furnace for a two BR house in northern CA.
