I installed a First Co air handler (M/N 36MBXR3HW) about 3 yrs ago in my home when I upgraded from elec baseboard heat to a boiler unit. It was speced at the time with the idea of eventually getting central AC. Well the time has come to do the AC, but I want to use R410 instead of R-22 as the refrigerant. I have purchased a Carrier 3-ton (38TXA Puron)compressor unit. I am a DIY that USUALLY researches a project thouroughly before starting it. I indeed did check on the future of freon availability, cost of servicing, cost of operation, the SEER rating (13SEER), and the power co's reate incentves. All indicators ponted to the Puron unit.
I failed to investigate if the air handler evaporationg coil would handle Puron. [I know, a rather important fact. ] Hence my question - is there a way to convert the Freon coil to work with Puron. I realize that there is a pressure difference in the refrigerants.
PS: I DO plan on having an EPA registered ACservice person do the final line set connections and charging/strt-up. I am simply running the line sets, drilling holes and making the 220V conections.
Thanks much
