our AC was not working and the repair man came out and replaced our dual capacitor. He showed me how it appears to have 'pushed out' on the end. Please share w/me some common causes for this to have happened. The unit is 5 years old, it's electric and there's a heat pump within.

9.5 times out of 10,it just happens, the capacitor goes bad.not something to be worried about.
If the unit is cycling frequently(on,off,on,off)that would cause an early death for a capacitor.Keep an eye on the unit for a couple days.I'm going to assume the tech watched for proper operation after the repair and everything is ok.
