I want to spruce up the top of a dresser that has recently been refinished. There are just a few very fine surface scratches. I remember seeing on some decoratiing show a product that you apply to the finish. It slightly melts or softens the varnish and then I think it said to go over it with steel wool or something then you just let it dry and voila! nice finish restored. I probably don't have the process quite right but please let me know if anyone has a clue what I am talking about.

The product you saw may be Howard's Restore-A-finish, I product I've never used.

I'm too cheap - I use Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and Scratch Remover, available from omost automotive retailers. It costs less and will do the same fine job on fine scratchs and abrasion marks. Just follow the directions on the can.
