George,

Back to my lacquer/poylurethane blunder table:

It seems I will need to use a chemical stripper to remove the polyurethane layer on the table top. Would the chemical stripper go all the way through to the lacquer layer as well to strip that too?

Also the more I read, i see that a polyurethane is highly recommended as a finisher...but I don't know if it durable for dining furiniture pieces? What do you think for a dinner table lacquer or polyurethane?

thanks

Rah:

You are correct that you will need a chemical stripper. It will remove both the polyurethane and the lacquer.

Polyurethane is a much more durable finish. Lacquer is used in furniture manufacturing because it's an easy, quick finish to apply.
