i have a '78 sears gt 18 garden tractor w/ 18hp onan engine. it started a litte sluggishly yesterday. won't start today. soleniod makes a clicking noise and starter won't turn. any ideas?

Hello Heavy G!
I believe you have a dead battery. You may need to charge it, or if it is 2 or more years old, I would replace it. Get a fairly good one...(one with 300 or more cranking amps) for that larger engine.

The battery was fine. it ended up being the points. i replaced them and everything is fine now

The ignition contact points? They have no effect on the starter and solenoid. Strange. Well....I'm glad you got it running again!
