Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Raising a Lawn Tractor Deck

I've got a Sears Craftsman 19.5 hp 46-inch cut lawn tractor. I've got it at the highest setting, but it's still not high enough. I'd like to know if/how to raise the overall deck, so that I can get an even higher cut.

Wow, the deck should be around 4" high when in the top position. Are your tires low on air? this can cause the deck level to be low. I am moving this post to the small engines forum, where others can give their suggestions.

I did check my tires, and they had been a bit low, but the cut had been right around 4" before.

I'm thinking that it must be in the contours of my lawn. My backyard is fine; it stays lush and at the correct height. (As a matter of fact, I have to lower it a bit when I make that cut.) But when I get to my front yard, there seems to be a problem.

I also went to Sears and inquired there, but alas, to no avail!

OK...uneven terrain will cause some scalping or short cut areas if the deck does not have guage wheels. A 46" deck should have them though. Do they contact the ground when the blades are set at the desired setting? If not, adjust the wheels until they contact or come close to contacting the ground while the deck is at the setting you want. This will keep it from dipping too low into the grass when the mower rides over a bump or hole.
