I am finishing my basement and I'm getting to the carpet stage.
I was wondering if I should put the Baseboards on the wall before I lay the carpet, or after?
I figured it would be easier before, because I wouldn't have to press down against the carpet to get it even. But, will this cause a problem for the carpeters. What is the standard gap to leave between the base board and the floor?
ANy help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Noel

It is best to install the baseboards first. What happens when the carpet needs to be replaced for some reason? The baseboards would have to come off to remove the carpet.
Leave a gap between the floor and baseboard, ½ the thickness of the carpet pile height. Usually 3/8 to 1/2 inch.
