I am putting a double 2x10 beam 20' long on top of 4 4x6 posts. It will be 9.5 ft high. I planned on installing post beam caps then raising one beam at a time, securing to caps and then attach two beams together.(to save my wife from having to cash in my life insurance) I proceeded and found the first 2x10 to be "boughed" more than I thought it might be. If I nail it in to the first post, it is about 2 inches high at the other far end. Is this normal? I thought maybe I could nail one end, then force the other end down, nail it, and maybe shim the middle two. Any thoughts or ideas on this one? Am I kidding myself on "building" the beam on top of the posts?
Thanks

.. if i understand correctly you are saying that the single 2x10 is bowed so that it wont contact a middle post or something like that? .. just be sure to put the "crown" up.. the weight of the decking will force it down then you can nail the post caps.
