I recently purchased a tilt-top pie crust top table. The person from whom I purchased it tried to refinish it. In the process they put wood putty lighter the the wood to fill holes. How do I darken the wood putty to match the table? Does anyone know, or do I have to remove the putty and then put in new to match the stain or color of wood. I have never removed wood putty, how do you do it?

Wood putty at best only approximates the color of teh surrounding wood. Regardless of what the can says, it won't look the same, even when the same stain is applied.
I touchup wood putty with artists oil colors. Get it close, blend into the surrounding area (don't just work on the putty itself) and no one but you will ever know if you don't tell them.
You don't want to try to remove the putty - waste of time. But, for furture reference, the solvent for most wood putties is acetone - which will also dissolve almost any finish it comes in contact with...
