I have an old smoking stand that I refinished years ago. We had a leak in the ceiling and it now has a dark watermark on the top in the shape of the object that was sitting there. How can I remove this black mark?

Strip the finish form the piece and apply a saturated solution of oxalic acid in hot water.
Oxalic acid comes in a powder form and can be found in any good paint store and most home centers.
