I have a craftsman high wheel trimmer mower.
The throttle cable control broke at the handle and
I bought a replacement but I can't figure out how
to get the throttle cable off. It has a rubber
sleeve going through a metal brace and the cable
goes through the sleeve. the owners manual doesn't
say anything about replacing the throttle cable.
Does anyone have an idea of how the throttle cable comes off? Does the sleeve turn, or do I have to
take the guard and other parts off to get the
metal brace off?

Hello and Welcome jimco to our Small Engine forum.

If I understand the part description correctly, the cable is called a Bowdin cable. {Wondering if I spelled that correctly?}

I am assuming here the replacement throttle cable is an orginal replacement part verus an generic part. The throttle wire is then suppose to be rapped in the metal spiral casing. The casing then attaches to the handle via clips and or clamps.

One end has a sort of hooked end. This end is installed into the throttle plate on the carb. Then the cable is routed and secured with the hold down clamps and or clips.

Correctly positioning the throttle end of the cable is critical on most mowers, so note where the current cable is secured.

Incorrectly installing the cable will cause engine starting and or engine speed control problems. If the throttle plate also closes the choke and the cable is incorrectly positioned, either the choke will not fully close, fully open and or may not operate at all.
