Against my recommendation my friend had a "professional" build his porch. They neglected to use joist hangers, they used 2x6 joists that span only 4 ft, is that short enough of a span to not need hangers? Also they put a joist approximately every 3 ft, using 2x6 decking, is that proper?

Joists should be spaced every 16", I doubt that a pro would have gone 3 feet???? Hangers are not necessary if the joists are securly nailed in place.
