I have an in-ground basement made of brick in 1904. There is now water comming through the mortar into the basement. Can I dig this out and patch/seal it? Or do I have to replace the wall? Is this something I should leave to a professional? Trying to save $, but I know leaving it alone would end up costing me a lot more later.

You should not have to replace the wall unless you have structural problems such as sagging. Look at eliminating water source through proper gutters and landscaping. Doing it yourself depends on how extensive the problem is and how much time/money you have. Many basement waterproofers offer free estimates-get a few and see what the cost would be. If there is a lot of digging involved you may want to go with the pro.
